Beach Review and Assessment Committee
In January 2003 the Beach Review and Assessment Committee (BRAC) was established with the primary objective to review, recommend and implement an appropriate plan of action to address the issue of beach erosion. The Committee met and after much rigorous review and discussion produced an Interim Report, ‘Beach Review and Assessment Committee: Interim Report May 2003′, which documents the background and major issues primarily influencing Seven Mile Beach and its management with respect to erosion. The Report provides a broad range of recommendations aimed at addressing both immediate erosion concerns and preventing future erosion problems through changes in development and planning policy.
The primary focus of the Government’s beach activity has been the implementation of some of the recommendations of the report, particularly pertaining to beach re-nourishment along Seven Mile Beach. The Department of Environment has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of these re-nourishment measures.
